Overview - About the Journal
Aims and Scope
Health Science Reports is an international, open access journal that publishes research and commentaries from across all medical and health sciences disciplines. The journal welcomes clinical studies, scientific research which has important clinical implications, as well as reports on methods and research design, health services, public health, and medical education and practice. Health Science Reports considers numerous publication types, please see our Author Guidelines for the complete list.
Please note that the journal does not currently accept case reports. We encourage authors wishing to publish case reports, to consider submitting their report to Clinical Case Reports. Similarly, the journal does not tend to consider preclinical studies using animal models or in vitro studies, unless they can show immediate clinical relevance. This is at the discretion of the editorial team.

Acceptance Criteria
For acceptance in Health Science Reports, a manuscript must be relevant to an international audience, and must be scientifically and technically sound, with appropriate methodology and presentation, and reaching conclusions adequately supported by the data.
Specifically, for consideration in Health Science Reports, manuscripts should be written in suitable English, adhere to proper reporting guidelines, and meet all applicable ethical standards. In addition, experiments or analyses must have been conducted rigorously, with appropriate controls and suitable sample sizes (where applicable), meeting current community standards. All methods should be described in sufficient detail to allow others to reproduce the experiments or analyses. In addition, the discussion section should appropriately relate the finding to those currently in the literature and acknowledge and comment on the study limitations. Conclusions should be justified and appropriate based on the results, avoiding overstatements.
The Journal publishes articles regardless of outcome or significance of findings. Manuscripts are not assessed on novelty or their perceived impact. As such, Health Science Reports gladly welcomes manuscripts with a specialist focus, as well as feasibility studies or negative results.

Abstracting and indexing
As is the case with any new journal, indexing in all relevant databases takes some time. Health Science Reports is indexed on PubMed/MEDLINE and Scopus and has recently been accepted into the Web of Science’s Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI). Web of Science evaluate ESCI journals that they predict will place in the top 50% of their category in the last quarter of the year. As we are currently predicted to be Q2 for 2022, we are confident that we are getting closer to our inclusion in the SCIE and so are making the journal ready for an evaluation. All ESCI journals will receive an Impact Factor in 2023. We will keep readers updated about the different services the journal is indexed within.

Peer Review Policy - Overview
Health Science Reports pursues editorial approaches that help us avoid bias. We maintain the highest standards of peer review while increasing the efficiency of the process. We do our utmost to judge research objectively on its own merits and to avoid favoring research, for example, from particular institutions, countries, or regions.
All research articles submitted directly to the Journal are initially evaluated by the editorial team; articles found appropriate for the Journal will be reviewed by at least two suitably qualified experts. The decision to accept, reject or request revisions is made by the in-house editor, based on the comments from the reviewers, along with the editor's own assessment.
All manuscripts submitted directly to Health Science Reports deemed appropriate, will be subject to single-blind peer review.
Most submissions transferred to Health Science Reports from partnering journals will be assessed using the original peer-review reports from those journals, when available; the editorial team, however, will critically review these peer-review reports and may choose to send manuscripts out for additional single-blind review. Normally, the editors will ask authors to revise their submission in light of the previous reports.
All publication decisions are approved by the editorial team on the basis of the reviews provided, and will be based exclusively on scientific and technical soundness.
Members of the editorial board provide insight, advice, and guidance to the editorial team. Advisory Board members do not handle the peer review process of manuscripts submitted to the journal but may act as peer reviewers themselves.
The editorial assistant provides administrative support to ensure Health Science Reports maintains the integrity of peer review and delivers rapid and efficient publication to authors and reviewers.
For additional details about the peer review process, please see our detailed Peer Review and Editorial Policy.
