Aims and scope

Evidence-Based Communication Assessment and Intervention (EBCAI) brings together professionals who work in clinical and educational practice as well as researchers from all disciplines to promote evidence-based practice (EBP) in serving individuals with communication impairments.

The primary aims of EBCAI are to:

Promote evidence-based practice (EBP) in communication assessment and intervention;

Appraise the latest and best communication assessment and intervention studies so as to facilitate the use of research findings in clinical and educational practice;

Provide a forum for discussions that advance EBP; and

Disseminate research on EBP.

The journal focuses primarily on publishing solicited commentaries of previously published treatment and assessment studies. These solicited commentaries are papers are reviewed by one or more of the editors. The journal also occasionally publishes solicited papers for special issues. These papers, although solicited, will undergo a rigorous peer review process, based on initial editor screening and double blind review by at least two referees. The journal does also occasionally publish unsolicited papers that advance evidence-based practice or provide experiential accounts on the implementation of evidence-based practice in communication assessment and intervention the field of communication disorders. Unsolicited manuscripts are reviewed initially by the Editors to determine if they fit the aims and scope of the journal. Those papers that do fit the aims and scope of the journal then undergo a rigorous double blind peer review by at least two referees. EBCAI does not publish original research.
